the Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) announced charges against individuals across the state for illegal activities, including boating in alcohol, drunk driving, illegal fishing and more.

A Frostburg man was arrested on August 1 for disabled driving after crashing his motorcycle into a bush in Rocky Gap State Park, Allegany County. Police said they were tagged by park staff and informed of a motorcycle that had drifted off the road on Lakeshore Drive near the park entrance. According to police, 31-year-old driver Harry Skidmore III showed signs of alcohol impairment and was given a sobriety test. Upon receipt of the test results, Skidmore Police issued four charges of disruption to operations. He is due to appear in court at a later date.

Officials on patrol in Deep Creek Lake accused a Virginia man of operating a drunk ship on Aug. 4. Police say they watched a boat go without navigation lights after sunset. When the officers spoke to driver Reid McDonald, 21, they found that McDonald had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, along with the smell of alcohol. He was escorted back to the bank and subjected to a field sobriety test. Upon receipt of the test results, McDonald Police issued four charges of disruption to operations and one charge of negligent boating. He faces up to 14 months in prison and a $ 1,185 fine. He is due to appear in court at the end of September.

A Pennsylvania man was charged on August 5 in Anne Arundel County on 11 counts of impaired and negligent operation of a ship. At around 8:55 p.m. that night, the police on a boat patrol observed a ship traveling at excessive speed and without the required navigation lights. The officers activated their emergency lights to make the ship stop, but the operator drove another 50 meters before being asked to stop by a passenger. The officers instructed operator Richard Klein, 63, to turn on his navigation lights. According to police, Klein had difficulty finding the switch and needed a passenger to help him. The officers also found that Klein had neither life jackets nor fire extinguishers on his ship and that his flares had also expired. After the police found Klein had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and smelled alcohol, they escorted him ashore for a sobriety test. Based on police observations and the results of the field sobriety test, Klein was issued four notices of disabled operations, three notices of safety equipment and four notices of negligence. He is due to appear in court at a later date.

Police arrested a Salisbury man who drove a stolen car while he was impaired. Officials on patrol in Wicomico County observed a person pacing near a vehicle that was stopped on the road on Aug. 9. The officers checked the person, Kiontre Baker, 26, and found that he smelled like alcohol, was very anxious, and had difficulty staying still. Baker initially told police he didn’t drive the vehicle but later admitted he did. Local officials said they found an open container for alcoholic beverages. Police conducted a field sobriety test and based on the results, arrested Baker for impaired driving. During their investigation, the officers observed items in the car of a woman who had reported her car stolen the day before. Baker was also charged with illegally hauling a vehicle. He is due to appear in court at a later date. The car was returned to its rightful owner.

A Greenbelt man was quoted as having harvested 10 undersized striped bass. NRP was conducting surveillance in the Kent Narrows area of ​​Queen Anne’s County early in the morning on August 14 when they observed a man harvesting several striped bass. Police identified him as Mario Perez-Santos, 44, and observed a black plastic trash bag containing 10 undersized striped bass. Police gave Santos three fishing quotes and returned the striped perch to the water. Santos faces a fine of up to $ 3,000 if convicted.
