Argosy Cruises has a long-term contract with. completed Washington State parks that offered the Tillicum Excursion (formerly known as Tillicum Village) in Blake Island State Marine Park.

Due to challenges related to COVID-19, the Seattle-based charter company was unable to continue offering the excursion. In one Press releaseMolly Schlobohm, Argosy Cruises’ chief operating officer, said revenue problems had forced the company to cut its offerings.

“We are sad to end Tillicum Excursion as we have always seen great opportunities in our operation on Blake Island,” said Schlobohm in the press release. “We really only scratched the surface of what could be offered on the island, but unfortunately COVID-19 and the loss of revenue required to continue operating on the island has forced us to withdraw and just focus on ours Focus on core business of boat tours, charter and transport. “

The Department of State Parks plans to keep the concession closed until 2022 in order to properly assess the demand for programs on the island. Argosy Cruises has been offering the Tillicum Excursion since 2009 and has invested heavily in the park since then. The company has also helped fund new programs and experiences on the island, such as guided nature walks and a coffee shop.

Blake Island remains open to the public, but is currently only accessible by private boat. The park has 1,127 acres of marine camping area, including eight kilometers of saltwater beach.
