SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Summer is almost here and tourist attractions in Sioux City are ready to welcome visitors again.

One of these attractions is the Sioux City Public Museum. The guides there say there is plenty to do for tourists in the museum.

“When you bring in visitors from out of town, this is one of the first stops people go to their families because we want to share our story. It’s an incredible story here in Sioux City and we want to share and talk about it,” said Theresa Weaver-Basye, the curator of education for the Sioux City Public Museum.

Weaver-Basye said the museum has many great exhibits and artifacts ranging from recreated dinosaur fossils to shows about historical events in Sioux City. But that’s not the only place tourists can check out.

The Sioux City Railroad Museum is also a popular stop. They have everything to do with the history of the railways and trains in the region, like model railways, a ride on the car train and an old locomotive engine.

“Everything we have out here has a very rich historical aspect and all of these are interpreted through guided tours and self-guided tours that we have. We have something for everyone,” said Matt Merk, executive director at Sioux Light Rail Museum.

Merk also said that closing the museum during the pandemic helped them plan bigger and better things for the future.

Merk and Weaver-Basye said they are both excited for this season and expect large crowds in their museums.
