“I was in my room just relaxing and I was looking out the door because they were using the intercom and basically they were telling me to get out of the room because they were trying to get the guy upstairs beforehand, “said Christopher Vauthan, Relax Inn resident.

Vauthan said he had just woken up when he was evacuated around 11 a.m.

He and other staff and guests were relocated to the motel office building. A staff member next to the motel said he saw officers circling the area prior to the evacuation.

“He killed his wife in Arkansas. So he must have retired here, to this hotel. And they tried to get him out, he didn’t want to come and resisted, and in the end they killed him,” said Aijue Williams.

Both eyewitnesses recall hearing a series of shots around 5 p.m. Then they saw a covered corpse being brought out on a stretcher.

“At first it felt like I was in a movie or something because you never see it in person. I didn’t know what to expect, “said Vauthan, motel guest.
