the Chicago Bears are 2-2. The NFL trade deadline is November 1st. That means four games remain before GM Ryan Poles has to make a decision. Does he buy, does he sell, or does he stand pat? The Bears were rarely active at the deadline under Ryan Pace. However, Poles has proven he isn’t above working those phones to find deals. Three of the next four games are on the road. It isn’t hard to imagine the Bears ending up 3-5 or 2-6 by then. At that point, he may have to consider getting a head start on 2023. That is where Robert Quinn comes in.

Trade rumors surrounded the star pass rusher during the summer. Nothing ended up happening. It made sense. He’s 32. The Bears are rebuilding. Staying together doesn’t make much sense in the grand scheme. Things never materialized because the demands for edge rush help weren’t high enough. That appears to have changed. Christopher Knox of Bleacher Report has two teams as prime candidates to snatch him if the Bears open the door.

Quinn’s $12.8 million base salary is pass-rusher reasonable, and we’d expect teams to make serious inquiries if Chicago’s slide continues.

While the Broncos have just $9.1 million in cap space available and would have to clear a little room, Gregory’s injury makes Denver a sensitive landing spot.

The Los Angeles Chargers, who have $6.5 million in space, would have to be even more financially creative. However, they are another logical landing spot. The Chargers recently placed Joey Bosa on injured reserve, and his groin tear appears more serious than originally believed.

According to Schefter, Bosa is expected to miss between eight and 10 weeks.

Best Fits: Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers

Robert Quinn isn’t solving the Bears’ biggest issues.

This defense has problems with the pass rush, even with him on the roster. He has one sack through four games though he’s managed to provide consistent pressure. There is a good chance he can pad his stats against teams like Washington and New England. With a few more sacks, his stock will be strong enough for somebody to come calling before Halloween. The obvious question is what the Bears can get for him.

Much of that also depends on how much money Poles might be willing to eat in his contract. If he’s willing to absorb most of the salary, the other team may up their draft compensation. That is how Denver got 2nd and 3rd round picks for Von Miller last season. Robert Quinn likely won’t fetch that much but a decent 3rd or 4th rounder isn’t out of the question if the other team is desperate enough. The Chargers and Broncos are both 2-2, with games against Kansas City still to come. They need guys who can hunt Patrick Mahomes.
