Updated April 8, 2021

The Coronavirus University Restart Team (CURT) has updated the travel guidelines with effect from April 1, 2021. These guidelines change as the circumstances of the pandemic improve and additional New York State guidelines are distributed but will be reviewed in the late spring semester.

In general, all university travelers – students, faculties and staff – regardless of travel destination or origin, must keep abreast of the current state of affairs New York State Travel Requirements. Currently, New York State strongly encourages domestic travelers to quarantine themselves upon their return, but quarantine will no longer be a state requirement after April 1, and there will no longer be a list of restricted states – contiguous or non-contiguous. However, domestic travelers still need to complete New York State Traveler Health Form and should also follow all requirements of the state you are traveling to.

All international travel – with the exception of ground travel to and from Canada – continues to require quarantine and completion of the Traveler Health Form under current NYS guidelines. Anyone traveling internationally – either during or after the spring semester – should review the destination’s entry requirements and considerations for an intended return to the United States. For example, some countries now require proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to arrival. If your visa has expired, your return journey may be delayed as many U.S. consular offices remain closed or limited services are available (Look up visa waiting times by location). In addition, travelers from certain areas are subject to US entry restrictions, which are subject to change without notice (see U.S. Department of State Summary of Coronavirus travel statements and exceptions of national interest). The decision to travel internationally always involves some risk and is more complex during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students with visas sponsored by the university should contact the International Service Bureau (ISO) prior to travel to obtain all necessary travel permits for visa purposes.
