Branson, Mon. (KY3) -Branson voters will soon decide whether or not to charge more tourists during their travels.

Jim Pulley, a resident of Branson, says he thinks they already pay enough taxes the way it is.

“I think it probably comes down to being more responsible with the money that’s already being paid,” said Jim Pulley, a Branson resident.

But in a city that depends on millions of tourists every year, Linda Cherry, the business owner of The Crystal Fish, says it’s important that people vote yes on April 6th.

“I live here in Branson so it’s very important to me on two levels,” said Cherry.

Two sides, because 75% of the money goes into city operations.

“It’s our water, our sewer, I mean it’s all in that way,” said Cherry.

Cherry said the other 25% was for Branson’s marketing.

“Getting the word out so people know what we’re doing and what’s going on and all the wonderful things we have to offer,” said Cherry.

City tourism tax is 4% additional for accommodation in hotels, attractions and tickets for shows. Sales of food and beverages in restaurants increased by 0.5%

Jason Outman, president of the Branson Lakes / Area Chamber of Commerce, said there could be problems if the tax doesn’t continue.

“Unfortunately, if it’s not over, the city will be caught in a traffic jam because we won’t have enough money to cover all of our infrastructure costs,” said Outman.

“It’s just critically important that we get this renewal and that we also vote yes to one and two, which is a two-part question on the ballot,” said Cherry.

“We are one of the most highly taxed cities in the region. I can understand that this is an infrastructure, but I think the money should come from someone else or somewhere else,” said Pulley.
