Murree’s Deputy Commissioner has sealed 15 hotels in Murree after it was discovered they overwhelmed tourists stranded at the hill station during the weekend that killed more than 20 people.

Actions were taken after reports of high hotel prices went viral on social media and complaints were filed in Murree’s control room, according to a statement released by Rawalpindi District Administration.

Some social media posts claimed that tourists were forced to sleep in their cars overnight due to hotel price spikes. Others claimed that one hotel was charging 20,000 rupees per night, while prices at another hotel were raised from 6,000 rupees to 70,000 rupees per night.

Similar reports reported that food prices had also increased in the area, noting that shops and restaurants charge Rs 300 for a small water bottle, Rs 250 for a single boiled egg, and cookies typically charge Rs 10 for Rs 300.

The sealed hotels are located along Abu Dhabi Road, Kuldana Road, Upper Jhika Gali Road and Bank Road.
