[MIAMI] – As the Caribbean tourism and hospitality industry continues to respond and adapt to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), the region’s leading association representing the interests of the private sector, has formed Forward together. An initiative that encourages industry stakeholders to work with their colleagues to support the trade association.

“With the increasing global use of vaccines, we are being encouraged by industrial research. This shows that travelers’ views on international travel are becoming increasingly favorable. And confirms that Caribbean countries and territories continue to be among the most sought-after travel destinations, ”said Vanessa Ledesma, Acting CEO and General Manager of CHTA. Vanessa, who believes CHTA can continue to respond to the pandemic and assist in accelerated recovery, is depending on assistance. Supporting existing and new members, both large and small.

“Over the past year, CHTA has focused much of its attention on the pandemic. That is why we have developed resources and programs to mitigate the effects of COVID-19. In particular, to restore the viability of the hospitality and tourism sectors. Also, promote public health policies and build trust among travelers and staff, ”said Ledesma.

In response to industry needs, CHTA has developed an extensive collection of COVID-19 resources. Including the series of courses on health security in Caribbean tourism and comprehensive guidelines on health security in the industry. And related training approved by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA). The club has also hosted more than 25 live webinars. Webinars on topics ranging from trends in travel demand to travel safety concerns to risk management. In addition to Caribbean Tourism Fireworks, there are a number of virtual press conferences that provide the industry, the media and consumers with updates on travel destinations.

Caribbean travel marketplace

Ledesma reminded stakeholders that for the first time in almost 40 years Caribbean travel marketplace will be staged virtually this year.

The marketing event, which is now taking place for the 39th time, traditionally takes place in January. However, due to the impact of the pandemic on travel and face-to-face gatherings, the event will be held online. The event will take place from May 11th to 14th, 2021.
