United Airlines
and stocks of other U.S. airlines fell as thousands of flights were canceled over the Christmas weekend as Covid cases rose.

A total of 3,273 flights were canceled on Sunday, according to FlightAware.com. The total number of cancellations in, to, or from the US on Sunday was 1,516. The total delay in the US was 6,612 on Sunday.

United (Ticker: UAL) fell 1.9%,


Delta Airlines
(DAL) fell 1.9% and


American Airlines
(AAL) was down 2.4%.

JetBlue
(JBLU) spokesman told Barron’s in an email that “we have entered the holiday season with the highest workforce we have had since the start of the pandemic and are using all the resources we have to meet our staffing needs”, however, told the airline that they had one increasing number of sick leave of the Omicron variant. JetBlue canceled 12% of its flights on Sunday FlightAware.

the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has pushed daily cases of the virus in the US to their highest level in almost a year, causing flight cancellations. This weekend, the seven-day average of Covid-19 cases surpassed the peak fueled by the Delta variant earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Cruise lines like


carnival
(CCL), down 2.5%, and


royal caribbean
(RCL), down 2.7%, also posted losses on Monday.
