FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, ME. – Todd Dunham, Fruitport community leader, says his hope is that the community’s new disease ordinance will help him manage his biggest headache: the two abandoned hotels on Sternberg Road.

The construction of the hotels was stopped because it violated the non-competition clause of a neighboring hotel with the project.

Construction stopped a few years ago and Malik Abdulnoor, in charge of the project, has been haunted by the community leader ever since.

“You won’t be returning calls. They don’t seem to care, ”said Dunham.

Now the community has an epidemic ordinance that the abandoned buildings do not comply with. Abdulnoor and his lawyer cannot avoid answering.

An overnight letter was sent to him on March 25th. So he has so many days to respond, ”said Dunham.

If Abdulnoor doesn’t answer, he’ll have to face a judge, says Dunham.

“We don’t want that to happen to us again. The disrespect … it’s just … taking care of it, “said Dunham.

FOX 17 named Abdulnoor’s work. They said they should contact their attorney who is currently on vacation and currently unable to comment.
