It’s the American dream for Europe’s troubled tourism sector. On Sunday, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, told the New York Times that American tourists had been fully vaccinated could visit the block this summer.
But the US makes up a tiny percentage of travelers to tourism-dependent countries like Greece, Spain, Portugal, and Italy. To prevent another lost holiday season for these nations, a full reopening of intra-European travel is required. And that still looks a long way off.
