JAMAICA, Queens – This Saturday 25 years ago, TWA Flight 800 exploded just minutes after taking off from Kennedy Airport.

Some 230 people were killed over the Atlantic off Long Island, and for the victims’ families, the Ramada Plaza JFK Hotel became the focus of their pain, grief, and despair as they waited for a message from loved ones.

It became widely known as the Heartbreak Hotel.

WABC-TV Channel 7 Eyewitness News reporter Josh Einiger visits haunted, abandoned time capsule of grief with relatives including a Texas man, Joe Lychner, who publicly went through personal hell, losing his wife and two daughters before finding strength and started fighting.

Josh also returned to the hotel ruins with Heidi Snow Cinader, who lost her fiancé aboard Flight 800. She turned her tragedy into a calling to help others survive the grief.
