(The Center Square) – A group of Pennsylvania lawmakers have partnered with the Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association to introduce laws that will create a grant program for hospitality and tourism businesses struggling to move away from COVID closure orders 19 to recover.

House Bill 1487 is sponsored by Reps Todd Polinchock, KC Tomlinson, Meghan Schroeder, Wendi Thomas, Shelby Labs, Frank Farry, and Craig Staats, all Republicans of Bucks County.

The legislature would get money from the $ 7 billion federal grant to bring total funding for the County Block Grant – Hospitality Industry Recovery Program to $ 500 million. The grant program would be dedicated to supporting COVID-19 aid to restaurants and accommodations, and providing facilities that have previously been denied grants.

“Without our help, the hospitality industry will continue to stall,” Polinchock said in a press release. “While most restrictions are to be lifted, the adverse effects of previous restrictions will linger for years. The industry will need our continued support to return to the thriving industry it once was long after the restrictions were lifted. These companies are part of the patchwork of our communities that brings people together and makes our cities special. “

The bill awaits action in the House of Representatives trade committee.
