GRAFTON – Weekly fireworks will light the skies over this Jersey County community all summer.

The Great Rivers & Routes Southwest Illinois Tourism Bureau said the shows will begin at 9 p.m. every Thursday from June 3 to September 9, except July 1.

The display will include a simultaneous show in Alton, organizers said.

“We’re celebrating our summer travel season and (encouraging) people to explore our area,” said Cory Jobe, CEO of the Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau.

Fireworks are launched from Grafton Lighthouse Park.

Business in town is good on the weekends, and “we need to let people know we are here during the week,” Jobe said.

A farmers’ market in Grafton is also planned for Thursday, as is the popular Music in the Park concert series on Thursday evenings.

“The fireworks really add to the existing activity in each community,” said Jobe. “Our plan is to expand this with specials and offers from local businesses.”

The Great Rivers & Routes tourist office serves the counties of Jersey, Calhoun, Greene, Macoupin, Madison and Montgomery.
