Right now, Kansas City police are embroiled in a standoff at the Best Western on Main on 43rd Street, just north of the plaza, just as CNN’s Jackson Kurtz has just arrived at the scene. Jackson what can you tell us? We saw many officers at the Best Western still negotiating with this suspect. It’s a little difficult to see from where we are now, but we’ve seen a lot of officers come into the area. They blocked traffic both ways on Main Street to help that person get out of this Best Western. But we all know this started for tonight after the police received a call about an incident where one person with a gun refused to let another person outside. Now, the officers replied, they have been able to get this person who has been held, but they are still negotiating with the suspect at this Best Western. We’ll let you know what else is going on here in Kansas City tonight. A suspect is at a standoff with police after allegedly threatening to harm a victim who was held in a hotel room. At around 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, officials were called to the Best Western on 43rd and Main Street about a gun interference. The caller said that a victim was in a hotel room with an armed suspect who refused to leave the hotel. The caller said they threatened to harm the victim. Upon arrival, officers found the victim who was safely out of the hotel room. The suspect stays inside and is armed with a gun. The officers tried to contact the suspect, who refused to leave the room. An official police stalemate was called to bring additional tactical resources and negotiators to the scene. The police contacted other people in the hotel to evacuate the building. The negotiators try to speak to the issue in hopes of bringing the situation to a peaceful resolution.
