“New Zealanders are responding to the call to come out and enjoy their own garden. Not only are they helping to support thousands of jobs and businesses across the country, but they’re also discovering why we have long been one of the world’s most sought-after travel destinations.”

Compared to the same period in 2019, more New Zealanders visited Queenstown, Bay of Plenty and Central Otago, although a lower proportion visited Northland and Wellington.

Those who traveled to Canterbury, Coromandel, or Northland showed the greatest satisfaction with their trip, while older travelers and those who made longer trips were the most satisfied.

“With so much to see and do in each region, it is not surprising that those who have more time to explore are the most pleased with their experience,” said Roberts.
