Four Skyhawks secured single and double victories on this day

EASTON, Mass. (April 14, 2021) – Stonehill College, ranked 8th in the Oracle / Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ‘s most recent Division II of Region II rankings, continued with a 7-0 win over Assumption College Northeast 10 Conference Women’s tennis action on the Charles Watt tennis courts this afternoon.

How it happened

  • Solorzano Valencia and Antao got the colon for Stonehill with their 6-3 victory in first place. The Skyhawks scored a 3rd place win by default, while Porter and Ormesher scored a 2nd place 6-3 win.
  • Stonehill also earned a single point by default and then Antao drew the Skyhawks within one point of the match win with their 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 2 singles against Assumption Freshman Caitlin Sze.
  • Ormesher won the match for Stonehill without coming into play in Game No. 5 against Assumption Freshman Jessica Crosby.
  • Markaryan and Porter rounded out Stonehill’s wins in Singles No. 4 and No. 3.
  • Solorzano Valencia, 6th place in the individual ranking of the Oracle / ITA Division II East Region, fought against Assumption senior in the match of the day Julia Chappelland secured a 6-3, 7-5 win in the No. 1 Singles.

Remarkable

  • After today’s win, Markaryan is now 24-2 in her career in NE10 singles. She has set an individual career record of 33-9, including her 6-1 mark this spring, after winning her last four singles games.
  • Ormesher has also won their last four singles games since today and improved to 4-1 in the spring. She is now a combined 48-27 in singles and doubles throughout her career, including a combined 40-13 in NE10.
  • Porter and Ormesher are about their careers this spring with 5: 1 as a double tandem and now at 14: 8 as a couple.
  • Porter is now a combined 68-38 over her singles and doubles career after her two wins today.

Stonehill (6-2, 6-2 NE10) is expected to come back into action on Sunday to score a major NE10 clash at Le Moyne College, ranked 5th in the Oracle / ITA East Region in a 2019 NE10 rematch – Ranking stands championship, in Syracuse, New York. According to the conditions of participation of NE10 COVID-19, spectators are not allowed to participate. The Skyhawks will return home this Thursday, April 22nd, for a Senior Day match against Saint Michael’s College at 3 p.m. Assumption (2-5, 2-5 NE10) visits American International College on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
