Tourism in Mesquite continues to recover and move from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is underscored by the recent accomplishments of Mesquite hosting two conventions, both of which have signed triennial return contracts. The Texas Fly Fishing and Brew Festival and the World Miniature Bullriding Championship will call Mesquite home until 2023.

Jessica McClellan, manager of the Mesquite Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) said, “We are fortunate that Mesquite has five highways that attract business and travel visitors. Mesquite has a diverse market for leisure, convention and business travelers that feed into our hotels. Every fifth visitor to Mesquite is here on business or just touring the area. During the pandemic, the high-end luxury hotels across the country had big problems, but the medium- or long-term hotels like the one in Mesquite held their own. In addition, the city has many guests for events at the Mesquite Arena, the Mesquite Convention Center, and the exhibition hall, as well as for Mesquite’s extensive retail offering, which continued to operate last year. “

During National Travel and Tourism Week, the Mesquite CVB recognizes the 2,030 people who work at Mesquite hotels, restaurants, and attractions in the area. While some companies closed their doors to visitors last year, Mesquite’s CVB continued to work diligently with partners to actively book new conventions and concerts that support the upward trend for Mesquite’s tourism industry.

McClellan stated that residents may be the driving force behind the continued restoration effort, as four out of ten visitors to Mesquite visit friends and relatives.

She stated, “We are running a major advertising campaign on Facebook and Google to get the word out and share it Visit MequiteTX.com Website. It has special discount restaurant offers and a calendar of events. The city wants the locals to be informed of the city’s activities and events to share with their family outside of the city. More than ever, the community needs to know what value a visitor has to the local economy. “
