In the coming years, 139 hotels with 33,137 rooms across Mexico will open their doors, our research shows. We’ll take a closer look at these projects and highlight the ones that are definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Mexico’s Hotel Openings by Year

For the remainder of 2021, another 46 properties with 9,786 keys are slated to open their doors as a remarkably busy fourth quarter draws to a close. Another 46 hotels with 10,293 rooms will follow in 2022, 20 projects and 6,407 keys are to be completed in 2023. After all, 27 projects and 6,651 rooms are already being planned for 2024 and beyond.

Of the 139 new Mexican hotels, 58 will be in the four-star segment, with 81 focusing exclusively on the five-star segment.

The most important urban growth markets in Mexico

According to our information, the popular seaside resort of Tulum is getting 16 new hotels with 4,067 keys. This means that it is just outside the capital, Mexico City, which can look forward to the premiere of 15 projects with 2,305 rooms.

Elsewhere, Cancún’s already considerable hotel supply will grow by 11 properties and 4,931 keys. Playa del Carmen follows with nine hotels and 2,136 rooms, with Puerto Vallarta rounding off the top five with its balance sheet of six projects and 1,436 keys.

Located on the Riviera Nayarit, Whisper of heart Resort will include 62 ocean view hotel guest houses and 30 ultra-luxurious oceanfront residences designed in harmony with nature. Three shell-shaped pools extend to the beach, where the clear blue water invites you to surf, snorkel and fish, against the backdrop of panoramic views of the volcanic Marietas Islands, a protected nature reserve. The opening date is set for the beginning of 2022.

The 120 guest rooms are part of Quivira, a 1,850 hectare luxury residential complex with a master plan that offers breathtaking sea views.
