According to the construction database TOPHOTELPROJECTS, dozens of projects are in progress across the country, most notably Marrakech, Rabat and Casablanca.

Our dedicated researchers report that 37 upscale and luxury properties with a total of 8,006 rooms are currently being developed in Morocco. We take a closer look at some of the most important projects for one of the most dynamic economies in North Africa.

Hotel openings by year in Morocco

In the remainder of 2021, four projects with 616 rooms are still to be completed. And next year it looks busy too, with 18 launches and 2,743 keys planned.

Things will be quieter in 2023, with just seven hotels opening, though together they will add a staggering 3,280 rooms to local offerings. Eight more objects with 1,367 keys are already on the books for 2024 and beyond.

Of the 37 new hotels in Morocco, 12 will be in the four-star segment, while the other 25 will be in the five-star category.

Top urban growth markets in Morocco

Marrakech, probably the largest tourist destination in the country, will have ten new hotels with 1,233 rooms in the coming years. It is just before Rabat, the home of the royal palace, in which nine houses will open their doors with 1,385 keys. And Casablanca concludes our overview with six active projects that will result in a total of 733 rooms.

Exciting hotel openings to be seen in Morocco

The first highly anticipated opening we’ll watch is the Fairmont La Marina Rabat Sale, should be ready by the end of this year. This 186 property will be part of the mixed-use complex La Marina Morocco and offers 186 rooms and suites in a breathtaking location with a triple waterfront from the marina, the river and the sea. It will also offer several F&B outlets, including an all-day dining concept, a lobby lounge and bar, a specialty restaurant and a pool bar, as well as ample meeting rooms, a spa and a fitness center.

About a year later The Bay of St. Regis Tamuda opens in Tétouan, northern Morocco. The elegant property becomes part of the pioneering lifestyle resort development La Bahia Blanca and has 100 luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites with unobstructed sea views as well as a spa, a pool and a fitness center. Dining options at the resort include a specialty restaurant, an all-day dining restaurant, and a King Cole Bar-inspired St Regis Bar in the brand’s flagship New York City.

Finally, St Regis plans to add one more property to its Moroccan presence, but not before the third quarter of 2025. The St. Regis Marrakech Resort becomes part of the Assoufid Golf Resort and has 96 spacious rooms and villas with a view of the Atlas Mountains. In addition to first-class leisure facilities such as a spa, pool and fitness center, the resort will include six different culinary experiences, including two specialty restaurants and of course the brand-typical St. Regis Bar.
