At 6 a.m. tonight, the local hospitality industry welcomes the reopening of key attractions like the Aquarium, Art Museum, and later this week the Santa Cruz Beach boardwalk. They all help bring tourists back to the area. But there is a group of tourists that the industry still cannot cater to, and they hope that soon with more that will change. Then we go to Action News 8. The reporter Felix Cortez lives in Monterey. Well, Erin, while industry leaders say we’re seeing more tourists, many of them are day-trippers for that day and then gone. What the hotel industry really desires is this group of companies, the congresses and conferences. We are currently in secret. This is our soon to be the newest iteration of the hotel’s Mediterranean coastal cuisine, the Hyatt Regency, which is completing a major renovation project that includes a new restaurant, bar area and outdoor seating. I think getting people back to work will still be a slow task, especially the group piece. I mean, there are a lot of people who have banquets on the peninsula. There are many cooks, many servers that it will be Unfortunately, this is the piece that will be lagging behind and not an indication from the state when some of these conventions and conference restrictions might be relaxed. Until then, the hospitality industry will continue to suffer a financial blow that reached nearly $ 2 billion last year due to the covid pandemic. Reporting from Monterrey I’m Felix Cortez kstw Action News eight mhm.
