ALTOONA, Pennsylvania – The Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball team started their postseason run with a 3-0 win for Mount Aloysius College Wednesday night in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament at Adler Arena.

Penn State Altoona (16-4), third seed in the AMCC tournament field, took care of six seeded Mount Aloysius (4-17) in three sets with 25-11, 25-12 and 25-15. The win is the Lions’ eighth in a row and the team’s sixth victory in a row.

With the win, Penn State Altoona moves into the semi-finals of the AMCC tournament. The Lions will face number two seeded Alfred State College this Saturday, November 6th at 4:30 pm in Penn State Behrend in a conference semifinal game. The winner of that game will advance to the AMCC championship the next day.

Makenna Bauer (Tyrone, PA / Tyrone) led all players in Wednesday’s match in scores and kills, finishing with 11.5 points and 10 kills, followed by six digs, a service ace, and a block assist. Lydia Mock (Alum Bank, PA / Chestnut Ridge) had 8.5 points on eight kills and one block assist, and she also counted five digs.

Taylor Myers (Morrisdale, PA / West Branch) scored six kills that included seven digs and an ace. Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA / Tyrone) had two block assists at team level and recorded five kills. Grace Shelley (York, PA / York Catholic) added two kills.

Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, PA / State College) scored a total of 30 team-best assists and contributed six digs, one kill and one ace at the same time.

Erin Lutz (State College, PA / State College) finished with a match high of 19 litters.

Penn State Altoona used a first sentence that Mount Aloysius made 10 attack errors, along with two service errors and two reception errors. The Lions also recorded 11 kills during the set, including five from Bauer and three from Mock. Lutz counted eight of her 19 excavations in the set.

The second movement followed an act similar to the first, with the Mounties’ mistakes coming back to haunt them. Meanwhile, Bauer, Cannistraci and Myers each recorded two kills as Penn State Altoona again won by a comfortable margin.

The Lions scored 13 kills in the third set, including four each from Mock and Myers and three more from Bauer. Moran distributed 12 assists during the set and helped Penn State Altoona take the win.
