HYDERABAD: After Covid-19 hit the state’s tourism sector, members of several travel associations have urged the Telangana government to take measures to relieve the sector.

According to an association, more than 10 lakh people in the state who are directly or indirectly linked to the sector have been affected by the pandemic in the past 14 months

Nagesh Pampati, chairman of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), said that while all sectors around the world were talking about “revitalization”, the travel and tourism industries were still discussing “survival”. Ranga Reddy, chairman of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) said the government of Gujarat has already announced a waiver of property taxes and fixed electricity charges for the hotel industry through March 2022, the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Manipur an “aid package” for the Sector. He called for the Telangana government to take action to revitalize the sector in the same way. “

The pandemic does not allow long-distance tourism, but we can at least promote neighborhood tourism in the state. And once the pandemic is over, the Telangana government should promote tourism along the lines of Kerala, Gujarat and Manipur, ”Pampati said. Recently, the members of various associations met with the State Minister for Tourism, V. Srinivas Goud, and presented their demands and proposals to revitalize the sector. They said the minister had given assurances that their demands would be examined.
