The U.S. Virgin Islands position the territory as the first choice for a premier Caribbean marine experience.

US VIRGIN ISLANDS, May 22, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – The US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism has big plans to strengthen its position as the premier Caribbean destination for marine tourism.

Joseph Boschulte, USVI tourism commissioner, after being invited to the St. Thomas Yacht Club last weekend, said the department’s focus on welcoming seafarers during the COVID-19 pandemic had paid off for the destination greatly.

“Despite numerous pandemic-related challenges, we have used the talent and creativity of our team to sharpen our focus on our incredible marine and charter yacht industry,” said Commissioner Boschulte, who believes the US Virgin Islands are “our natural assets We will make full use of “resources and resources to deliver world-class experiences to visitors who arrive on our shores. “

He said the territory had already started to bolster its marine tourism offering as the pandemic opened up additional opportunities to tap into the charter yacht industry. In 2019, the direct contribution of charter and sport fishing vessels to the U.S. Virgin Islands economy was estimated at approximately $ 45 million.

“We forecast significant growth for the years 2020 to 2021 due to the large number of visiting ships,” he explained.

An important development in the past winter season was the introduction of The Moorings, a world-leading yacht charter company, to the St. Thomas charter base.

The U.S. Virgin Islands have an extensive commitment to the industry, with multiple agencies coordinating to provide a concierge experience to the marine industry, whether for recreational, business or competitive purposes.

The Department of Tourism will continue to sponsor events such as fishing tournaments, the Virgin Islands Charter Yacht Show, and the annual St. Thomas International Regatta, and has a robust media hospitality program that attracts national media to experience the destination’s seaside offerings and travel destinations and report on events. .

“Due to careful adherence to public health protocols, including our travel screening portal, we managed to host marine events in the Territory over the past year,” said Commissioner Boschulte, who chaired USVI Governor Albert Bryan Jr. and Lieutenant Governor Tregenza hailed Roach for her vision of placing the territory’s maritime traffic in the foreground and center. He also congratulated local partners such as the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association and St. Thomas Yacht Club on their efforts to provide a safe and healthy marine experience for residents and visitors.

The Ministry of Tourism has developed and maintains a dedicated website that showcases the area’s maritime value proposition. Upcoming events include the International Optimist Regatta (June 14-20, 2021), the Virgin Islands Charter Yacht Show (November 7-10, 2021) and the first Caribbean Charter Yacht Show at Yacht Haven Grande – St. Thomas ( December 9) -12, 2021).

The Commissioner also noted that the Department of Tourism is working with the Governor’s Office to create a St. Croix-specific marine program with its own marketing platform.
