HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Waikiki hospitality workers held rallies Friday to urge several hotels to resume daily service and bring back more household jobs.
The rallies took place on the pool deck of the Modern Honolulu Hotel and in the Ilikai.
Unite Here Local 5 said hotels are seeing up to 99% occupancy, but only 62% of members are back to their jobs.
The hotels did not react immediately.
“We are fighting for daily room cleaning to come back because the guests suffer, the workers suffer and the workers stay at home because there is no daily service,” said Gemma Weinstien, President of the Unite Here Local 5 Union.
