Popular coastal areas are booked out as people inland try to brave the heat this weekend

You could head west to the Washington coast if you try escape the heatbut finding a place to stay could be difficult.

The weather was cloudy on Washington’s beaches on Thursday and an onshore wind felt like nature’s air conditioning was running at full blast, but it’s hard to find hotel rooms with air conditioning.

“We close four months a year and make half our living in July and August,” said Scott Anderson, owner of Electric Beach Bike Rentals.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the Sand and Sawdust Festival, but those without hotel accommodation may have difficulty finding one.

“I heard everything was full,” said Anderson. “I think people are Planning for the heat and come for the weekend. “

The parking lots at the Ocean Shores Hotels were crowded and Q13 News called a half-dozen others only to find there was no rental for the weekend.

Though temperatures 100 degrees were not yet forecast along the coast, Grays Harbor County officials warned that the ocean itself poses a significant threat to visitors.

Cold temperatures, a lack of lifeguards, sneaker waves and raging currents pose dangers for visitors who are not used to living on the Pacific Ocean.
