This is part of Thailand’s “Test & Go” program which quarantines travelers from certain countries / areas and includes necessary documentation, registration requirements for a Thailand passport, COVID-19 test protocols and more.

With the implementation of the Thai “Test & Go” program, which exempts travelers from certain countries / areas from quarantine, the Thai Tourism Authority (TAT) has a checklist with them what travelers have to consider before entering, on arrival and after entering Thailand.

This includes required documentation, registration requirements for a Thailand passport, COVID-19 test protocols and more.

What to Do Before Going to Thailand

To be eligible, travelers must be off the list of traveling by air Approved countries / areas where they must have stayed for 21 days or more. Returning Thais and foreign residents who have previously entered from Thailand are exempt from this obligation.

Travelers are reminded to provide the following required documents:

  1. A vaccination certificate (fully vaccinated) with an approved vaccine at least 14 days before departure.
  2. Those who have been infected within three months must have received a dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days prior to travel.
  3. Travelers under the age of 12 who are traveling with parents or legal guardians are exempt from the obligation to vaccinate.
  4. A medical certificate with a negative RT-PCR laboratory result, issued no later than 72 hours before departure (all travelers).
  5. A confirmed payment for an overnight stay in a SHA Extra Plus (SHA ++) 1 accommodation and an RT-PCR test.
  6. An insurance policy with coverage of at least $ 50,000.

To prepare, travelers must apply for a Thailand Pass:

  1. Register for a Thailand passport here.
  2. Upload the required document (possibly together with the valid visa / re-entry permit) and allow three to five working days for the approval process. Wait for vaccine certification approval and paid housing, including RT-PCR testing.
  3. Confirm approval and receive a Thailand Pass QR code.

The entire process takes up to seven working days.

What to do on arrival in Thailand

Upon arrival in Thailand, travelers must

  1. Show the Thailand Pass QR code to health screening for screening, then go through immigration procedures.
  2. Take the RT-PCR COVID-19 test in the reserved accommodation or in the test center agreed in advance.
    1. Children under the age of six have a saliva test.
  3. Ride the pre-arranged airport transfer to the hotel. (Distance from the airport within 2 hours.)
  4. Download and install the MorChana application at the hotel.

During their stay, travelers should:

  1. Wait in the hotel room for the test result.
    1. While the waiting time should be within 24 hours, it can vary between 24-48 hours depending on the operating hours of the laboratory.
  2. Travelers who tested negative for COVID-19 will receive an antigen test kit (ATK) for the COVID-19 self-test on days six to seven.
  3. Travelers will receive a notification about the ATK self-test on days six to seven. You should record the result in the MorChana application.
  4. Practice the DMHTTA Precautions:
    1. D – distancing,
    2. M – wearing mask,
    3. H – hand washing,
    4. T – temperature control,
    5. T – tests for COVID-19 and
    6. A – warning application.

What to do after a negative test in Thailand

Travelers are free to go anywhere in Thailand or leave Thailand to travel to other countries. However, travelers are advised to follow the guidelines and measures announced by the respective province / country of destination.

Residence requirement for vaccinated travelers reduced to five days as part of the sandbox program

At a general meeting on Friday under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, the stay had been shortened from seven to five days as part of the “sandpit” rule. “Happy Quarantine”, as the tourism authorities call it, has been shortened to five days for vaccinated travelers.

The sandbox program is an entry route for vaccinated travelers. However, these are arriving from African countries are an exception due to the emergence of the Omicron variant. Travelers to Thailand must stay in a SHA + approved hotel or resort. They must also have an RT-PCR Covid-19 test on arrival and a rapid antigen test on the fourth or fifth day of their stay.

Travelers with children under the “sandbox” rule should note the following:

  1. Children under six must travel with their parents and require a negative RT-PCR test result issued within 72 hours of departure. Young children do not need to take another RT-PCR test upon arrival and can instead have a saliva test.
  2. Children aged six to 11 must travel with their parents and require a negative RT-PCR test result issued 72 hours prior to departure.
  3. Teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17 require a negative RT-PCR test result, which was issued 72 hours prior to departure. Those traveling with their parents do not need to be vaccinated; single travelers need proof that they have received at least one dose of an approved vaccine.

Travelers 18 years of age or older must be fully vaccinated with an approved vaccine against COVID-19 at least 14 days prior to entering Thailand as part of the sandbox program. You must also have a negative RT-PCR test result issued 72 hours prior to departure. Travelers must provide evidence of an insurance policy with coverage of at least $ 50,000.

People who have been infected with COVID-19 within the last three months require a medical certificate or at least one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine.
