BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) — The Kentucky Department of Transportation’s District 3 Snow and Ice Team is monitoring a winter weather system approaching the District 3 region tonight. Information from the US National Weather Service in Louisville shows the system will arrive as rain throughout the day today and turn to snow later during the night.

Air temperatures are expected to fall below freezing after 9 p.m., with areas potentially receiving an inch or two of snow. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to the 20 degree mark with wind chill readings approaching single digits. The forecast could change, but dangerous driving conditions are expected in areas throughout the district tonight and tomorrow.

Motorists who have to be on the road should be prepared for black ice and snow on the road. If you have to travel overnight and in the morning, you should adapt your driving style. Extra travel time, significantly slower speeds and plenty of space between vehicles are some of the precautions motorists can take.

If necessary, emergency services are called to treat roads. Please be prepared for slow-moving snow plows and other vehicles on the road and give them sufficient space.

Motorists are reminded to keep a close eye on the developing forecast via local news media and/or the National Weather Service Louisville Facebook page at US National Weather Service Louisville Kentucky or on Twitter at NWS Louisville (@NWSLouisville). District 3 updates will also be available on the District 3 Facebook and Twitter pages. Please see the links at the bottom of this email to get to these pages.
