After DJ Uiagalelei was benched during Clemson’s game against Pittsburgh, here are five potential transfer targets for the sophomore year.

The Clemson Tigers’ disastrous 2021 season got much worse on Saturday. The team was 14-7 behind the No. 23 Pittsburgh Panthers at halftime and saw the deficit widen to 21-7 after quarterback DJ Uiagalelei threw a pick-six on the opening drive of the second half.

After completing 11 of 23 passes for 101 yards and two interceptions, Dabo Swinney became head coach Benches Uiagalelei in favor of Taisun Phommachanh. However, he returned to the game in the fourth quarter.

As always, when a suspected quarterback sits on the bench, he is immediately placed on the transfer portal. It’s not known if it will, but if it did, here are five potential targets for the Clemson second caller.

Clemson Football: 5 transfer goals for quarterback DJ Uigalelei

5. USC Trojans

The first target on the list is the USC Trojans, who happened to be one of the favorites to recruit Uiagalelei from St. John Bosco High School. Actually, 247Sports gave them a seven percent chance to do that. Should Uiagalelei enter the transfer portal, it would be interesting to see if he would take another look at USC. That could all depend on who the school is hiring with Clay Helton as the new head coach.

4. Utah Utes

The Utah Utes were among the many schools that Uiagalelei offered a scholarship. That was taken for granted as he was a five star recruit but lost to Clemson. Utah could be a great landing spot for Uiagalelei as he can play under head coach Kyle Whittingham, who has led the team to a bowl game for six of the last seven seasons. Also, it would be interesting to see if the Utes can steal the quarterback from their Pac-12 rivals in USC.
