Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line is looking for employees from the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gave cruise ships the green light to resume this summer, ”said Lisa Schilling, senior vice president of operations, Bahamas Paradise Cruise line. After 23 years in the cruise industry, Schilling spoke emotionally to WPBF 25 about the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line job fair, which was held on Monday for their Grand Classica ship in the port of Palm Beach. Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line is looking for greeters, check-in agents, baggage handlers and forklift drivers ahead of their expected first trip next month. “We have so much to do, to get the ship ready after 15 months and to have shore staff who are just as supportive as our crew would be phenomenal and that’s what we are looking for,” Schilling said. Manuel Almira, executive director of Palm Beach Port, said it was not only a benefit for the cruise industry, but also for the port and the local economy. “I consider it a brand new beginning,” said Almira. “Remember, all port and economic engine-related jobs are roughly fourteen hundred annually,” he said. “This is an example of how these jobs come from,” said Almira. The job fair will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Port of Palm Beach at 1 E. 11th Street in Riviera Beach. The shipping company asks all applicants to bring a résumé to the job fair. The company is looking to hire employees ahead of its June 25 simulated sailing event, which sees the cruise ship disembark for a two-day, employee-only voyage while CDC representatives inspect all operations to resume their passenger cruises starting July 2nd. The job fair is coming as Florida federal unemployment benefits now expire in less than two weeks.
