ORLANDO, Florida. – Orange County’s Tourism Development Council met on Friday to take a closer look at the April-June tourism numbers.

Visit Orlando President and CEO Casandra Matej said Orlando has passed pre-pandemic times.

“Travel confidence has been at its peak since February 2020 and we found out during the research that people are interested in theme park destinations and that interest has increased by 25%,” said Matej.

Matej said 90% of American travelers plan to take a trip in the next six months, with many looking to Orlando.

Orange County’s Auditor Phil Diamond said tourism is going in the right direction compared to last year.

“We started the pandemic with about $ 180 million in unconstrained, undesignated reserves,” he said.

Ray Walls of the Orange County Convention Center said the center had 41 events scheduled from July to September, including MegaCon.

Orange County’s tourism tax collections decreased slightly in April compared to March

Expect 434,000 attendees with an estimated economic impact of $ 709.5 million.

Walls said the convention center canceled nearly 80 events during the pandemic.

The convention center also has vacancies as more events are planned over the next few months.

“We have these major events on the rise and we need their expertise. We need our people to make these events successful, ”said Walls.

The Council for Tourism Development is due to meet again on September 24th.
