LAHORE: The Department of Tourism and Archeology (TAD) has decided to promote religious tourism in Punjab, with a focus on 11 historical sites that are sacred to different faiths.

In this context, a meeting was held here on Thursday chaired by TAD Secretary Ehsan Bhutta. Additional Secretary for Tourism, Director Auqaf, Assistant Secretary for Religious Affairs, Deputy Director ETPB, Director of the Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA), Senior Chief, Planning and Development Committee, Director Archeology and representatives from PTEGP attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that the Punjab Project for Tourism for Economic Growth (PTEGP) has conducted on-site management studies in 11 locations including Gurdawaras Nankana Sahib, Rohri Sahib, Sacha Sauda, ​​Katas Raj Temple, Taxila Museum , Bibi Jawindi Uch Sharif, Darbar Khwaja Ghulam Farid and Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh were done. PTEGP also rehabilitated six roads leading to 34 km of religious sites at a cost of Rs 833 million. These roads will be completed by June 2021. Director WCLA announced that a mosque in Lahore was being renovated by a private owner. The Deputy Department for Minority Affairs reported on the road rebuilding in Mariamabad, Sheikhupura by PTEGP.

The deputy director of the ETPB announced that four Gurdwaras have been restored, including Mata Kaur Sahib, Tilla Joggian, Bhai Karam Singh and Choa Sahib in Jhelum with the help of an NGO. He also stated that agreements are being processed with the tourism department for the redevelopment of Bradlaugh Hall in Lahore and the promotion of domestic tourism in Kartarpur. Secretary TAD Ehsan Bhutta also instructed the representative of the ETPB and the Gujranwala District Administration to take immediate action to preserve the birthplace of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh in Gujranwala. “Punjab has many religious sites that have enormous potential to attract pilgrims of different faiths. Everything we need to help them promote tourism, ”said Bhutta.
