The tourism department of Jammu and Kashmir started a three-day tourism festival in the resort town of Doodhpathri in the Budgam district on Saturday.
The main aim of organizing this festival was to make Doodhpathri known as an attractive resort like Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Doodhpathri is a green, open meadow and a beautiful valley about 42 kilometers from Srinagar.
A spacious meadow with lush green grass highlights the beauty of Doodhpathri as a tourist destination.
The water that flows through the meadows has a milky appearance from a distance and some people say that the cattle that graze here produce a rich quality of milk, which is why the place is called “Doodhpathri” (Valley of Milk).
Shepherds from different parts of the valley travel to the meadows with their cattle. Doodhpathri is a popular destination for locals in the summer as the cold breezes and green, lush forest provide relief for visitors.
The three day festival features several adventure sports, cultural events and displays Kashmiri arts and crafts for the visiting tourists. Numerous locals and senior executives from the district administration attended this event.
“This event was organized to attract tourists. Several road shows have been held and people from all over the country are visiting Gulmarg, Pahalgam. We hope that this event here, as elsewhere, will attract more visitors. The tourists who attended the event today can return as ambassadors and bring in more people in the years to come, “said Dr. Ghulam Nabi Yatoo, director of tourism in Kashmir.
“I am very excited about the revitalization of tourism here. The activities here are quite winter oriented and I am sure that tourists will have a good time. I ask all tourists to visit Doodhpatri and add this piece of heaven to their trip list,” said Nasir, a local radio jockey who attended the event.
“This is very good. People only go to Gulmarg and other well-known places. Tourists should come more often as it is a very good destination for tourism. It will stimulate tourist activity. This festival will make a great contribution to attract more tourists. ” “said a local provider.
